Current Projects

Our current project—to create a student and community Dinjii Zhuh K’yaa dictionary—was specifically selected to address the long-term community goal of creating more accessible language-learning resources for our schools and community. A dictionary is a foundational language-learning resource that can be integrated into school curricula, specifically that of the Yukon Flats School District, and used to develop more language-learning resources like textbooks and apps. As a result, the Dinjii Zhuh K’yaa dictionary will make Dinjii Zhuh K’yaa second-language and immersion pedagogy more effective in producing a greater number of expert speakers. In addition to the student and community dictionary, we are also developing a Gwich’in Summer Academy, which will offer intensive beginner courses for interested adult learners as well as pedagogical courses to help increase our Dinjii Zhuh K’yaa teaching capacity in schools.
